With a presidential election just under a year away, political hopefuls, especially of Republican stripe, are jockeying to get the party’s nomination.  Nothing unusual in that.  What is new this time round is the remarkable prominence a group of hyper-charismatic leaders have assumed in the whole contest.  Called “the most important Christian movement in America you have never heard of”, the ‘New Apostolic Reformation’ (NAR) has assumed a role in politics that would have been unheard of even 10 years ago. Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachman, all household names in America and heavy-weights on the political right, have connections with this movement. We cannot however ignore the Word of God, and here we are reminded that God describes homosexuality as an abomination.</p> <p>What then is our response as evangelical Christians to those whom we may know within the so-called &#8216;Gay&#8217; community? Is it judgemental, or one of seeking to help, with sympathy, kindness and compassion?</p> <p>What does the homosexual community think when they hear the name &#8216;evangelical Christian&#8217;? The average &#8216;Gay&#8217; will likely say, &#8220;they hate us don&#8217;t they.&#8221; Sadly some behaviour re-inforces that view.
