The Daily Mail is one of the UK’s national newspapers, and is a very popular and widely read paper. In their edition dated Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 there was an article concerning the UK goverment’s intention to put a copy of the Bible into schools here in England. The headline read for this piece read as follows:
King James Bible for every school in EnglandAlthough that statement may not have been completely accurate, that ‘every’ school would receive a copy of the Authorised Version, as it is “every State Primary and Secondary school in England”, nevertheless it is to be welcomed that such a move by our government is taking place.
Again, quoting from the Daily Mail article –
Around 24,000 Bibles are being distributed to schools this week by the Department for Education to mark last year’s 400th anniversary of its publication.Education Secretary Michael Gove, who describes the Bible as ‘the most important book written in the English language’, has insisted that every child should have the chance to appreciate it’s literary riches”.
Mr. Gove was again quoted as saying –
The King James Bible has had a profound impact on our culture.
As Bible believing people we rejoice in this gracious providence of the Almighty God. Many schools will, of course, already have Bibles, albeit the result of translations that are less reliable than the King James version. May God use this circulation of His word, to help people see that the Bible has not only had a contribution to our ‘literary riches’, as Mr. Gove put it, although that statement is completely true, but it reveals to sinful men, women, boys and girls, the wonderful message of Jesus Christ. How that God’s Son came to earth to die for sinners, for those who truly repent of their sins, and seek the forgiveness and mercy of God, which is only achieved through the finished work of Christ.
We, are delighted with this initiative by our government (that can’t be said about all the things they propose), and it is our sincere prayer that many people in our schools will read this wonderful book for themselves, believing by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have their lives transformed by the might power of God.
